This is an image created for the new Depeche Mode album, Sounds of the Universe, which I worked on as a collaboration with my husband, Corey Holms. Corey was asked to remix the band’s logo, and his work, along with 13 other designers, will be available in the deluxe box set.
The image is actually taken from the negative space of the logo, and curved lines were created to fill in the space. I hand-embroidered the lines in floss onto a linen background, spending about 16 hours on the whole process. We then stretched the fabric and Corey took photos of the result. Photos taken on an angle showed a very cool shadow pattern, but they decided to use the straight on shot.
The original logo can be seen here.
